JEE: The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is one of the most competitive entrance examinations for undergraduate engineering in the world. It is taken by more than 1.5 million students out of which very few gets admissions to NITs. Students in all branches of B. Tech programme at NIT Sikkim are admitted through JEE (Mains).

DASA: Foreign nationals get admissions at NIT Sikkim through Direct Admission of Students Abroad (DASA) scheme. NIT Sikkim highly encourages students from foreign nations to pursue higher education at the institute.

GATE: Selection in M. Tech at NIT Sikkim is through the GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) score of a candidate. Counselling is done through Centralized Counselling for M.Tech./M.Arch./M.Plan. Admissions (CCMT). A candidate with a valid GATE score can apply for M. Tech through CCMT.

Abhiyantran (Technical Fest)
Abhiyantran means Engineering. To promote the cause of technology and to ignite the young talents of our country, the institute celebrates its technical fest annually, named ‘Abhiyantran’. Since the first chapter of Abhiyantran, mass convergence of students from all over the country in different events, workshops and seminars have increased in leaps and bounds. It has also hosted a glut of talks and symposiums of some of very distinguished personalities availing some very praiseworthy and polite remarks from them about the institute and its students which has boosted our students with a lot more zeal and enthusiasm.

Udgam (Cultural Fest)
The cadence of life touches right note when it blossoms with all colors. Brushing of all shades of human emotion and artistic flair plays an important role in an all-round development. And this cultural extravaganza provides opportunity to all the students for the realization of this very purpose. The event is a culmination of sound and lights, of music and arts, of dances and drama, of thoughts and words, the perfect place to bring out the artist in everyone and to break the rut of daily life.

Sports
Sports club of NIT Sikkim conducts various inter and intra-college events like cricket, badminton, kho-kho, chess, table-tennis etc. to pioneer spirit of teamwork among the students and aim to use, maintain or improve physical ability and skills while providing entertainment to participants. The Sports Week and the Xplode Cup are the annual sports events which keep the ball rolling throughout the year. Sports and games are thoroughly promoted with the aim that the dynamic leaders of tomorrow need to be good sportsmen as well.

Apart from this, different student Clubs are formed, determined to improve the extracurricular activities of students like, Illusion Dance Group, Anuvrat (ECE Society), Computer Society (CSE Society), Nirman (CE Society), Electrical and Electronics Organization (EEE Society), C@NS (Coding society).
